Tony Swafford is a native of Ponder, Texas and holds bachelors and masters degrees from the University of North Texas. He has been involved professionally in education for over 40 years, serving in numerous roles in public schools and private business focusing on improving student performance.
Mr. Swafford has been with Texans Can Academies Since October, 2008, serving as Assistant Principal for School Improvement at Fort Worth Can Academy - Campus Drive for one year, and four years as principal at Fort Worth Can Academy - River Oaks. In those four years, he was instrumental in reducing the dropout and mobility rates for students, increasing the graduation and completion rates, and ensuring that the campus met state and federal accountability standards.
Swafford and his lovely wife, Charla have been married 37 years and have two grown children, Shelly, a middle school choir director, and Jay, a high school teacher and coach. They both enjoy spending quality time with family, especially 9 year old granddaughter Mackenzie.
Mr. Swafford is beginning his first year as Principal of the Carrollton/Farmers Branch Campus, and is deeply committed to the students of Dallas Can Academy and their success in pursuing their high school diplomas and improving their lives.
