Fred Ertz

Principal at AR&D

Fred Ertz believes that education is the foundation for just about everything important in life. Education is the cornerstone of his professional life as he works with clients to develop skills to be the best they can be in a highly competitive industry. As a principal at AR&D, he taught the businesses and individuals he worked how to put into practice the best strategies to help them achieve their goals.

Fred joined the Can Academy Education Foundation in 2013 and became a trustee in 2016 because of his belief that education is an opportunity for everyone. He believes in the organization’s mission of giving kids a second chance as crucial to our education systems. Providing small classroom sizes and the emphasis on really knowing a student inside and outside of the classroom makes complete sense to Fred.

As a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Fred has witnessed the unnecessary disappointment of lost opportunities. He has seen members of his community who have the potential to grow and succeed but are unable to because of the lack of access to a rigorous education. There are ideas and talents that are abandoned because strong teachers and customized curriculums aren’t available.

“If we aren’t learning every day, we aren’t paying attention, and we are not moving forward,” said Fred. “We should do everything we can to find a place where people can succeed.” Fred believes that young people sometimes need to be pushed through the door to arrive where they want to be and sees staff doing that daily at Texans Can Academies. He simply does not want to see any child neglected and his/her potential contributions to our world lost if he can help avoid it. His latest passion is to create career paths for students.

Fred earned undergraduate degrees from Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota in biology and communications with an emphasis in pre med and journalism. While in college he helped launch and operate a campus radio station. He’s taught classes at the University of Michigan, University of South Carolina, University of Texas and Loyola University Chicago. He lives with his wife and their son in the Dallas/Fort Worth area their daughter is in college.
