Montelongo to Head Academy Fund Raising

September 06, 2016

Riverstone Ranch resident, Sara Montelongo has accepted a position with Texans Can Academies, a public high school of choice with 13 campuses statewide, as its new development director for Houston Can Academies.

Montelongo will oversee all fundraising levels, coordinate community outreach and awareness efforts, and devise and implement preferred development communication practices for the Houston Can development team.

Montelongo joins Houston Can Academies with a background in education fundraising. She was most recently the annual fund and alumnae relations coordinator at Incarnate Word Academy where she also gained experience in event management.

Montelongo’s career also includes researching, analyzing and constructing bills for education, health and immigration issues for Texas State Representative Carol Alvarado. Montelongo is delighted to be a part of the Texans Can movement. “I’m excited to be a part of a school system that has found the key to graduation at a pivotal point in the lives of young people,” said Montelongo. “Sara’s expertise in fundraising, communication, and, most importantly, her passion for educating children, bring an incredible momentum to Texans Can Academies.

We are thrilled to have her as part of our Houston team,” said Richard Marquez, CEO of Texans Can Academies. Montelongo graduated from Saint Mary’s College and currently lives in South Belt where she enjoys spending time with her family, fiancé and German shepherd, Ozzy.

She is a graduate of Incarnate Word Academy and attends church at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. The importance of education was emphasized to Montelongo by her parents. They believed that an education would open doors for her as a Latina and empower her to make a difference in the community.
