Texans Can Academies – Austin hosts COVID vaccination clinic

June 18, 2021

Understanding how important it is to ensure that everyone desiring a COVID-19 vaccine has easy access to one, the Austin campus of the Texans Can Academies hosted a drive-through vaccination event on their campus at 2406 Rosewood Ave from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16.

“We hope our staff, students and their families can take advantage of this opportunity,” said Dr. William Arevalo, principal. “Vaccinations are working and will help us all return to learn much sooner and enjoying those community events that make Austin such an amazing place to live.”

The clinic was offered with the help of the Austin Community Foundation and St. David’s vaccination equity initiative through VaxTogether and H-E-B.

Vaccinations were also available at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex, 1156 Hargrave St.

While the first dose provides some effectiveness against the coronavirus, a second dose is believed to significantly increase protection. Current guidance from the CDC recommends the second dose should be from the same supplier as the first, so a second vaccination clinic will be available at the same locations in early July.

“If you want one, please come and get one,” Dr. Arevalo said. “I look forward to putting the danger of this virus behind us, and every shot is one more step forward towards a safer school for our students and our staff.”
