Robert Nelson, MD

Robert Nelson, MD has a long record of service in medicine. After completing his residency at the University of California – Davis, Dr. Nelson began his medical career with Eastern Oklahoma Ear, Nose & Throat in 1979 and practiced there until his retirement nearly four decades later. In addition to serving his patients, Dr. Nelson was also Assistant Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he oversaw medical students and resident training for pediatricians and family physicians.

Dr. Nelson was the recipient of the American Medical Association’s Physicians Recognition Award in Otolaryngology, and he has authored and co-authored several publications for medical journals. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Oklahoma Medical Association, and the Tulsa County Medical Association. Dr. Nelson has served on several boards and has extensive administrative experience, including his time as President of Physicians, Inc., Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Tulsa’s Saint Francis Health System, and President of the Oklahoma Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.

Deeply committed to serving his community, Dr. Nelson has also served as a deacon and elder of Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, where he also taught adults and children’s Sunday schools, and worked regularly with youth at the Tulsa County Juvenile Detention Center. Dr. Nelson thus brings a rich history of compassion, understanding, and care to his role at Texans Can.
