Texans Can - Austin - Family Thanksgiving Baskets

Texans Can – Austin – Family Thanksgiving Baskets

November 11 (Monday) 08:00 am

In Austin, one in four families is food insecure.*  Many of those families are represented by students at Texans Can.

This week, you can help!  We are collecting non-perishable food items for students in need over the Thanksgiving break. We ask you and your coworkers to collect items November 11-15 for pickup on the 15th (or dropoff on the 18th).  You can join by emailing Nina at

If you would like to make a monetary donation towards the holiday food, please visit here.

How to Solve a Family’s Hunger for Good

Hunger is a symptom of poverty. To end it for good, families must earn higher wages and save more. A high school diploma is the first, important step towards higher earning potential, and we must support our youth as they fight for their education and economic independence.

Last year, campus staff and community leaders like @theHTGroup and @HancockMcGill&Bleau collected enough food for a family of four to enjoy a delicious Turkey or Ham dinner with extra items for the week to provide the daily meals students normally have while school is in session. In addition to giving out baskets, Texans Can staff researches nearby food pantries and resources to help educate families on how to access available aid.

When you support Texans Can, you are helping students to find the help they need in the short run—and the skills and education to take them farther in the long run.
