Principal's Message

Rolando Gonzalez

My name is Rolando Gonzalez. I am honored to serve as principal at Texans Can – Houston Southwest.  I have been in education for 28 years and have previously served our students as an assistant principal, high school registrar/campus test coordinator, English Language Arts & Reading teacher, and bilingual paraprofessional. I was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, and I am the first college graduate in my family.

I believe the most important part of my assignment is to advocate for what is best for students. I strive to ensure more students meet high academic standards. My goal is to provide our students, teachers, and staff with a safe environment for learning. It is important to build collaborative relationships with our families, communities, staff, and students to achieve trust, so that together we may find what gets in the way of learning, wherever it may happen on our campus. Consistency and accountability at all times are crucial. What does this look like? It looks like frequent classroom visits, attendance, meeting one on one, making ourselves visible at all times, and guarding an “open door” policy for all teachers, students, and parents.

All students should have the opportunity to excel academically and become life-long learners. For our students to believe in themselves, we must believe in them.  My goal is to be an effective leader who creates and protects a positive campus culture. That culture sets high expectations and promotes learning for all of our students, teachers, and community members. And it’s a place of safety.

I look forward to a successful school year as we continue to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of all our students at Texans Can – Houston Southwest.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to educate your child!  Let’s Grow Together!
