Dr. Thalia Fae (Brown) Matherson is a retired educator from the Dallas Independent School District, where she was an exemplary teacher, principal and central office administrator who trained principals and other education administrators. 

After early retirement from Dallas ISD, Dr. Matherson was employed as Executive Director for six years for the eight-state South Central Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church.

Her volunteer experience is extensive and includes services on many boards, including Southern Methodist University, Huston-Tillotson University, Dallas (now Texas) Women’s Foundation, Texas Methodist Foundation and the Dallas Historical Society. She has also served as president of the Dallas Retired Teachers Association District 10 and Informative and Protective Services State Committee of Texas Retired Teachers Association. She is past president of the Trinity Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

She is past president of the North Texas Conference United Methodist Women and former director of Women’s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church (currently, United Methodist Women National Office) where she served as Vice President of the Section of Finance, among other leadership positions. She was elected delegate to Jurisdictional Conference in 1980 and General Conference in 1984, 1988, 1992, 2000, and 2004. She teaches in Regional and Conference Schools of Christian Mission (now Mission u), and is a member of and holds a position of leadership at Warren United Methodist Church.

Dr. Matherson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English (cum laude) from Huston-Tillotson University, a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Southern Methodist University, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University – Commerce (formerly East Texas State University). She is the recipient of many awards, has travelled extensively within the U.S. and internationally, and is a published author.

She is the widow of the late Arthur Matherson, Jr., also an educator, and they are the parents of an adult son, Aaron Keith (Ta Tanisha) and grandparents to Arianna.
