It was more than a pleasant surprise for Juan Sanchez, one of five students from Texans Can Academies - Oak Cliff nominated to receive a $1,000 scholarship award from Walmart, when he learned that he was the lucky winner.
Juan and classmates in the Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) program went to Dallas College Cedar Valley Campus on Thursday, April 20, to join the activities for National CTE Signing Day, part of a growing nationwide movement to guide more students toward industry-based certifications and build a stronger workforce.
Juan was nominated by his Academic Advisor both for his academic performance and his attendance. Juan said he felt pleasantly surprised and greatly appreciates Texans Can Academies, Dallas College and Walmart for providing this great opportunity to help secure his future.
Juan is an active student in the Texans Can - Oak Cliff ACE program, which focuses heavily on enrichment opportunities and family engagement.
Juan plans to graduate in June 2023 and is looking forward to attending Dallas College in the fall.
