Texans Can Students Can Work Toward a High School Diploma While Earning Industry Certifications at No Cost

DALLAS, Texas - Texans Can Academies (TCA) is expanding opportunities for students to graduate with more than a high school diploma. Through its CCMR initiatives and partnerships with @DallasCollege and @EveryCarCan, TCA students have opportunities to gain career-focused training, earn industry certifications and prepare for the workforce while completing their high school education.

Through TCA's partnership with @DallasCollege, students can participate in training leading to OSHA, forklift and roofing certifications at no cost to TCA students.

These experiences are made possible through TCA's partnership with @EveryCarCan. Their support helps provide students with access to meaningful CTE and career-training opportunities. The partnership helps TCA connect students with experiences that extend learning beyond the traditional classroom and provide pathways to skills and credentials that can support their futures.

The program is structured so students can pursue career training without putting their high school education on hold. Students are equipped with laptops, allowing them to work on their TCA coursework before and after attending Dallas College classes.

This approach gives students the opportunity to accomplish two important goals at the same time: earning a high school diploma and gaining career credentials that can help prepare them to enter the workforce in high-demand industries.

"Through our partnership with Dallas College and the support of Every Car Can, we are creating opportunities for students to see that earning a high school diploma and preparing for a meaningful career can happen together," said Dr. James Ponce, Superintendent of Texans Can Academies. "Our students can continue working toward graduation while gaining hands-on training and industry certifications that prepare them for what comes next. Partnerships like these help us remove barriers, expand opportunities and give our students more pathways to build the futures they envision for themselves."

For Texans Can Academies, career preparation is about more than earning a certification. It is about helping students recognize what is possible when they have access to education, training, resources and strong community partnerships.

The success of these opportunities also depends on the leadership and coordination taking place across Texans Can Academies. TCA's CTE Specialists and Director of School Counseling play an integral role in organizing student participation and serving as liaisons among students, campuses and program partners. Their leadership helps connect students to available opportunities, support them throughout the process and ensure they can balance career training with the academic requirements necessary to earn their high school diplomas.

Together, Texans Can Academies, @DallasCollege and @EveryCarCan are helping create opportunities for students to pursue a high school diploma, industry certifications and workforce preparation, all while still in high school.

For students who may have thought these opportunities were out of reach, programs like these can create a different path forward and provide additional options for life after graduation.
