Dallas, TX — Texans Can Academies proudly highlights a transformative Financial Literacy Field Trip that took place on February 20, 2026, providing students with a unique opportunity to engage directly with national financial leadership and deepen their understanding of key financial principles.
The event was made possible following an invitation extended through PlainsCapital Bank after the U.S. Treasury Department notified Bank President Brian Heflin of U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s visit to Dallas. The Secretary’s team specifically requested the presence of Texans Can Academies students, reflecting recognition of the organization’s strong commitment to financial literacy education. The event welcomed 16 students representing Texans Can Academies campuses in Oak Cliff, Pleasant Grove, and Grant East.
Throughout the experience, students actively participated in small group discussions with Secretary Bessent, demonstrating professionalism, confidence, and strong communication skills. They asked thoughtful questions and engaged in meaningful dialogue around essential financial literacy topics, including budgeting, saving, investing, and financial decision-making.
This field trip exemplifies Texans Can Academies’ dedication to providing real-world learning experiences that prepare students for long-term success beyond the classroom. By connecting students with leaders in finance and government, the organization continues to reinforce the importance of financial literacy as a critical life skill.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for how they represented Texans Can Academies,” said district leadership. “Their engagement and curiosity during these discussions reflect the strength of our programs and our commitment to college, career, and life readiness.”
Special thanks are extended to Brian Heflin, Bank President, and Ana Hernandez, Senior Vice President of PlainsCapital Bank, for their partnership, invitation, and continued support of Texans Can Academies students. Appreciation is also extended to the CTE specialists whose efforts helped coordinate and support this impactful field trip experience.
Texans Can Academies remains committed to expanding opportunities that empower students through exposure, engagement, and experiential learning.
