Child Abuse Advocate Takes Prevention Into the Classroom – Texans Can Academy – San Antonio

More than two dozen students at San Antonio Can High School received a classroom lesson unlike any other.

“I know that we can make a difference, ” said Carrie Wilcoxson, with the Blue Ribbon Task Force.
Wilcoxson, a child advocate with more than 20 years experience, is also a former Child Protective Services worker.

“This is prevention at its best.” Wilcoxson shared with the students real life stories of child abuse and neglect, including cases resulting in death.
“Now that I look at these things, and I hear it, it really touches me cause it’s sad, ” said Senior Jeremy Santos.

Wilcoxson explained to the teens how everything is not always black and white, and the abuser may not be the person you expect.
