Coronavirus (COVID-19) Precautions Across Texans Can Academies

RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Precautions

Texans Can Academies takes the health and wellness of our students, staff and community seriously. We are aware of the recent announcement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) related to the possibility of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) widening transmission. For updates regarding COVID-19, we encourage families to visit the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.

As a statewide school district, we will monitor County (Dallas, Tarrant, Harris, Travis, and Bexar) Public Health announcements and follow the advice and recommendations from relevant local, state and federal health authorities regarding necessary precautions and protocols. Additionally, as health officials continue to learn about this newly emerging virus, they recommend that everyone take the same steps to protect against COVID-19 as are taken to prevent the spread of everyday illnesses like the common cold or flu:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Stay home if you are sick. If you have a fever, please stay home until you are fever-free for 24-hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze, or use a tissue, and then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.

As the situation is rapidly evolving, we will continue to monitor and provide additional guidance when available through the CDC and respective Department of State Health Services or County Public Health departments. Thank you for your supportive partnership as we work to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
